As the best long-distance movers in the region, our professionals at NOR-CAL have overseen a great deal of short and long-haul relocations. Having experienced so many, we know how difficult it may seem to stay healthy on the road while on a lengthy trip. Luckily, our team has the following pointers to help keep you feeling great on the road!
Bring along healthy snacks.
Although you may be tempted to stock-up on chips, chocolates bars, and all those fun party foods, nutritious, easy-to-eat snacks are by far the healthier option. Instead, go with things like preservative-free meat jerky, healthy trail mix, veggies and hummus, homemade granola bars, fresh fruit, string cheese, and low-sugar Greek yogurt cups.
When thirsty, choose water.
Water is without a doubt your best friend at any point, but especially on the road. Bring along a few reusable water bottles and fill them up along your route. Keep a cooler in the trunk with some ice packs if you prefer your water cool. You can also freeze several full bottles overnight, so they can defrost while you’re driving, and you’ll always have cold water to beat dehydration.
Pit-stop to stretch out.
Stop every so often along your drive and get out of the car to stretch your legs. While you’re at it, move your shoulders, neck, arms, and torso to loosen up a bit, so you don’t feel so stiff while you’re driving. The tenser you are, the longer your journey will feel, so try to avoid that altogether.
Choose your food wisely.
As with snacks and water, choose your food wisely while you’re on route. Although those burger joints you pass seem like a delicious idea, they may not set well as you’re driving. Look for fresh, healthy food and skip unhealthy roadside venues. Go with grilled or baked foods as opposed to fried meals or choose salads and greens instead for lighter dishes.
Wear loose clothing.
Opt for loose clothing for the drive to assure you’re very comfortable during the trip. Tight clothes may look stylish, but after a few hours they may cause too much compression and cause chafing and just feel annoying in general. Loose articles of clothes can also prevent your muscles from getting achy during the ride, as well as extreme conditions like deep vein thrombosis, where blood clots form in the legs after long periods of sitting and inactivity.
